eRADAR (electronic health record Risk of Alzheimer’s and Dementia Assessment Rule)
eRADAR (electronic health record Risk of Alzheimer's and Dementia Assessment Rule) is another tool designed to help doctors decide which older patients to screen for dementia. It uses data available in patient’s electronic health records (EHRs) to calculate a risk score for having undiagnosed dementia. This is important because almost half of people living with dementia are undiagnosed. Earlier diagnosis can help patients get access to the most effective medications and treatments.
eRADAR has been developed, validated, and tested in a collaboration between the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and Kaiser Permanente Washington (KPWA). We have found that the algorithm identifies patients with undiagnosed dementia with good accuracy in both settings. In a 2026 study, we also found good accuracy for detecting undiagnosed dementia using healthcare claims data as well as EHR data.
